ABOUT THE SUPERINTENDENT

Dr. Douglass Moss has a passion for learning. He has a life long appreciation for culture, communication and public education. Dr. Moss was raised in Northern California, Oregon and Austria. He attended San Francisco State University where he received degrees in German Language and Linguistics, History and Business Administration. He attended graduate and post graduate studies at Saint Cloud State University, Azusa Pacific University and Victoria University as well as academies in Mexico and Chile. He focused his graduate studies on communication sciences, socio-linguistics and neuroscience.

Dr. Moss started his career as a medical speech language pathologist in the VA Hospital system in Saint Cloud and Fort Snelling treating injured veterans with neurologic issues from the first Gulf War. He shifted to education and served as a speech language pathologist and bilingual literacy, dyslexia and autism specialist (Spanish/English) in San Bernardino City Unified School District before moving into administration in the areas of special education and language development.

Dr. Moss has served as the Superintendent for Mountain View School District since 2017.  Dr. Moss is committed to serving our South Ontario community and to representing our district on the local, regional and state level. Dr. Moss believes that an outstanding TK – 8 education serves as the foundation for all future successes since it teaches students to be curious, tenacious, kind and engaged.

Dr. Moss strives to create school environments that are inclusive, diverse, tolerant, welcoming, safe and conducive to individual innovation and inspiration. These environments should adapt with the student over their educational experience in Mountain View School District. The district has the responsibility to continually refine and renew a commitment to equity and access to a wide range of supports that can assist our students "at promise". This allows our educational professionals to:

1. Help young people develop a healthy sense of self and community;

2. Prepare young people to be stewards of American democracy; and

3. Enable young people to successfully navigate the future of work and community contribution.

Dr. Moss has traveled widely. He loves languages, music, travel, the visual arts, hiking, nature, citizen science initiatives and cooking.

Dr. Moss is proud to lead Mountain View School District.
